Quaint Little Getaway - Home Away from Home | House in Trinidad
1 Bedroom House in Trinidad
We have such a great location! Just one little block off of Main Street, this is the sister unit to the Quaint Little Duplex. It's a really cute home with lots of light, good space & personality. A 1923 house with the original wood floors, fun woodwork, glass doorknobs and an abundance of charm. There's a small office for reading or working, and a beautiful, antique claw-foot tub in the bathroom. Everything you need is here for your convenience & comfort.
The bedroom has a queen sized bed and in the office, a roll top desk & chair for reading or working - even Zoom meetings. A dining room with an antique table, kitchen, living room & laundry room gives you everything you need for comfort & ease. A large reclining chair is in the living room, along with a comfy reclining sofa. You have the entire unit to yourself.
We are 420 friendly on the front porch or in the back yard. 420 shops are a block away.
The house is one block off of Main Street. Safeway is 2 blocks away, downtown Trinidad starts 1-1/2 blocks away with shops, restaurants, museums, galleries, etc.
Trinidad sits at about 6,000 feet in altitude. In the summer the temperatures can get up towards the 80's & 90's and during a heat wave, even hotter. There is air conditioning in the front room & in the bedroom. The duplex tends to stay relatively comfortable in the summer, though during a heat wave it may get warm. We have ceiling fans in every room, and by opening the windows at night and closing them during the day it stays fairly comfortable.
In the winter it snows in Colorado. Please come prepared for snow if you're staying during the colder months. We try to have someone come and shovel the snow if it's more than a few inches. The duplex stays really cozy in the winter, with the gravity furnace just seeping heat upward from the basement. It's an old coal furnace transformed into gas so there is no blower to dry out your skin.
We recommend that you think about trip insurance in the winter.
As mentioned, the house is 100 years old this year. So, the floors do creak. You can sometimes hear the floors creak on the other side of the house too, but we think that it’s all part of the charm.
When you check in, Milo & his little buddy, the neighbor's dogs may bark. They can bark furiously! But they're on the other side of a wooden fence and he will stop barking as soon as you go into the house. They're good dogs, they're just protective of their fence. Their job is to bark when people are around.
You may also see some wildlife in town. In and around Trinidad there are raccoons, possums, deer, turkeys, and bears. Bears are known to dig around garbage cans for food. We've had a couple of guests mention that theysaw a bear around. If you encounter a bear, they are usually way more afraid of you than you are of them. Make yourself big. Back away slowly. Do not ever let a bear feel cornered. And just as a heads-up, they smell a lot like a skunk. So you will probably smell them before you see them.
