The Neighborhood:
Sunnyside, Denver, Colorado
Sunnyside is located near Denver’s popular Highlands and Berkeley neighborhoods, but locals know it has a character all its own! RTD’s G line has a stop you can walk to in about 15 minutes, so getting downtown is a breeze even if you don’t have a vehicle. Start your morning at Huckleberry Roasters, a 10-minute walk away. You can also walk to Waldschänke Cidery (15 minutes) to sample some of the best cider in the country. Other local haunts include Diebolt Brewing, Bacon Social House, El Jefe and The Original Chubby’s. You definitely won’t go hungry here! You’ll also be within walking distance of two parks; Denver loves its green spaces and Sunnyside is no exception.
Once you’re Downtown, get oriented at Union Station, which has been reimagined as a cultural hub with cafes, art and shopping. From Union Station, Coors Field is within walking distance to the North, while Ball Arena (Nuggets and Avalanche) is to the South. Trendy Larimer Street is also nearby. You can switch trains at Union Station to get to Empower Field at Mile High. The 16th Street Mall offers a free shuttle, which is the best way to get to the Denver Performing Arts Center as well as the State Capitol and Denver Mint.
Further East, it’s a short Uber ride to City Park, Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the Botanical Gardens, and other attractions. The new Meow Wolf art experience is also worth checking out, as are the Denver Aquarium and Elitch Gardens. All three are near Empower Field and the REI Flagship store.
Here for a concert? Red Rocks is a mere 25 minutes away by car. You may want to check out this area regardless of your itinerary – it’s a unique place, and its gateway town of Morrison is charming. Link up an easygoing riverside hike at Lair O’ The Bear or an afternoon paddleboarding or skating in Evergreen to really make a day of it. Further south, you’ll find Roxborough State Park (35 minutes) for more hiking trails. One of Colorado’s main draws is Rocky Mountain National Park, which makes for a great day trip. Drive 1.5 hours through a dramatic canyon for a day of hiking, sightseeing and wildlife viewing.
Depending on your destination, skiing is 1-3 hours away. Locals head to Echo Mountain, Eldora (near Boulder) or Loveland (near Georgetown) for a more low-key experience, but we’re also within a few hours of Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and other snowy delights. There is a Nordic center near Breck if you want to try out cross-country skiing, and the summer months are a great time to rent a kayak to explore Dillon Reservoir.
In short, this is the perfect jumping-off point for exploring the best of Denver and the Rockies! It’s impossible to see everything in one visit, so we look forward to hosting you again after you fall in love with Mile High Life!
Getting Around:
As mentioned above, you don’t necessarily need a car here. The light rail is a great way to get around, and you can walk to the nearest station. Check out rtd-denver.com for schedules and details. Like in most metro areas, hailing a Lyft or Uber here is a breeze. Downtown Denver is walkable once you get there, or you can rent a bike or scooter if you like! These are especially fun in the RiNo Arts District. Ski shuttles and gear rentals are available for most major resorts, but we would caution you to not rely on ride sharing services in the mountains. You will get stranded at the ski resort – not fun!
If you brought a car, hop on I-70 West to get to the Rockies for hiking, skiing, mountain towns and more. I-25 will take you to Colorado Springs and Garden of the Gods to the South and Fort Collins, CSU, etc. to the North. Get to Golden (20 minutes) via the 58 and Boulder (30 minutes) via the 36. Everything is within easy reach!
Other Things to Note:
This is a non-smoking, non-vaping home! We appreciate that some of our guests may wish to indulge in some of Colorado’s herbal offerings, but this is not the place! An odor fee will be added to your reservation if the policy is violated. Thank you in advance for your compliance.
We do have neighbors! Please observe the quiet hours of 10 PM to 8 AM, especially on the backyard and front porch.
The home is climate controlled for a comfortable stay.
