Welcome to Black Barn Cabins. Nestled in a picturesque Colorado Mountain Valley just steps away from beautiful Lightner Creek gently winding it’s way through the valley with it’s soothing babbling sounds. These off grid cabins were built with lots of care and consideration for the visitors and the environment. They were designed to be self sufficient with a complete solar panel powered system with Lithium battery backup.
The water comes from a storage tank filled from a filtered well on the property. There is propane powered heaters in each cabin along with a tiny wood burning stove in the kitchen/living area. The cabins are not fitted with air conditioning as the overnight temps average in the mid to low 50’s even in the hottest summer months. The power and water is generally sufficient for accommodating your stay, however we ask that you keep in mind the limits of these types of resources and try to be economical with your use of water and power whenever you can.
The bathroom accommodations are mostly borrowed from RV type of use with a water flushing toilet and propane powered instant hot water on demand. The toilet is supplied with special paper that is designed to break down for use in this type of system. We strongly ask that you only use this paper provided, limit the amount flushed as much as possible, and not flush any other products in the toilet. This will greatly reduce the possibility of backing up or blockage that would require a visit to remedy. A trash can with bag is provided to utilize as much as possible and can be taken out and replaced on request if needed.
Lightner Creek Road dead ends about one mile up the road at Destination Ranch. Destination Ranch is no longer a functioning ranch but a very picturesque private development with beautiful mountain and meadow views. There are still some old barn structures seen from the road that were once used in the 1980’s film “City Slickers”.
